Feral Cats
A feral cat is the term associated with cats that are not grown by humans, in other words they are homeless cats living in colonies of their fellow beings. These cats are untamable to a certain extent as they spend most of their life in colonies but Feral kittens are tamable only if they are taken from their community when they are 12 weeks or younger. Feral cat's colonies are usually consisting of many different cats that live together and search for food together.
Feral cats are also known as wild cats as most of them are not tamable by human beings. Feral cats usually live a miserable life as they are not safe in their colonies and often die early age of about 2 years. However feral cats of ages more then 18 years have been reported and are under careful investigation.
Feral cats are not easy to tame because of their habit of living in the wild and with other fellows but taming wild feral cat kitten may be possible under careful observation of the humans.
Over the years there are individual and organizations that are working towards protecting and feeding feral cats. Their efforts have resulted in establishment of many feral cat sanctuary places that are homes of the rescued cats where they are given food and shelters. These shelters are custom built places for the animals where not only cats but every other animal being rescued is kept under safe eye of a person normally called 'watchman'. Community for feral cat care in waggaman Louisiana and islands feral cat project is such an example of these efforts.
Also there are individual who act as caretaker and give food to feral cats in their colonies and also care about their health.
A new kind of breed is developed out of feral cats that are known as Savannah feral cats. Savannah project is aimed at creating a perfect breed of cats by crossing genes of different cats from all over the globe.
The purpose of creating the Savannah feral cats is the beauty one can see in the new breed creature. Unfortunately at this time there are not many Savannah feral cats available as they are breeded rarely and thus are quite costly as compared to normal kittens.
Feral cats that are kept in the special care taking homes have a tendency to simply vanish from the home without a trace. It is because that adult feral cat has lived all their lives in their colonies and it is impossible to contain them within a compound. These cats are usually traced by following their claws. Most feral cats claws are visible in the dirt and mud making them find an easy task.
